An Empirical Study of Senior High School Students’Attitudes towards Science

Abstract: A large number of researches have been conducted to cultivate students’positive attitudes towards science, that has been an important goal in science education. The paper conducted a questionnaire survey among 6356 students from 20 senior high schools respectively located in Eastern,Central and Western regions in China to explore the main characteristics of Chinese students’attitudes towards science by using PISA 2006 science survey tools. Results found in the paper show that Chinese students aged 15-17 are very positive to science and science related issues,and they are very supportive of science enquiry, and very interested in science and science career. However, Chinese students’ attitudes towards science remain relatively shallow in scope. The paper provides some suggestions for fostering students’ positive attitudes towards science in line with the research results obtained.
