July 1-3, 2024 —— In order to further promote international exchanges and cooperation in public scientific literacy, the China Research Institute for Science Popularization (CRISP) invited Dr. Sook-Kyoung CHO from the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER), who is also the President of the Public Communication of Science and Technology (PCST) network, and Prof. Jinwoong SONG, an academician of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (KAST) and professor at Seoul National University (SNU), for an academic exchange visit.
The PCST is one of the most influential international organizations in the field of science communication. Seoul National University's Department of Science Education is renowned for its strengths and plays a significant role in promoting public scientific literacy. During this visit, the two scholars presented keynote speeches titled Enhancing Scientific Literacy: Sharing Korea’s Practices in Science Culture and Communication and Science Education and Scientific Literacy: Establishing the Next Generation Science Education Standards in Korea, respectively, as part of the thematic activities organized by the Center for China Science Popularization (CCSP) Think Tank. They also participated in a specialized symposium on "Talent Cultivation for Science Popularization" co-hosted by CRISP and Beijing Normal University (BNU). More than 60 researchers and students from CRISP, BNU, University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB), and the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University attended the series of events.
During the visit, Dr. Wang Ting, Party Secretary and Director of CRISP, met with the two scholars. Both sides expressed their willingness to strengthen cooperation in the field of public scientific literacy and exchanged in-depth opinions on establishing exchange and cooperation mechanisms between CRISP and the World Organization for Public Scientific Literacy (in preparation) with PCST and Seoul National University.
