To further strengthen the construction of new-type think tanks with Chinese characteristics, build multi-level platforms for think tank exchanges and transformation of research results, promote the transition of Studies on Science Popularization and Science Writing Review towards becoming think tank journals, and facilitate the integration of journals with science popularization think tanks, an academic exchange activity titled “Think Tank Journals’ Development Philosophy and Practice” was successfully held on October 10 as part of the CCSP Think Tank Special Activities series. For this event, the 38th session, the Executive Editor-in-Chief and Director of the Editorial Department of the Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yang Liuchun, was invited to deliver a keynote report.
Yang Liuchun provided a detailed introduction to the experience of constructing think tank journals based on the Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences, covering aspects such as the philosophy of think tank journal construction, brand management, influence building, and capacity building for serving authors and readers. She pointed out that the Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences positions itself as the core media of the national scientific thought bank. In its planning and manuscript organization work, it focuses on three key levels─national strategy, CAS deployments, and common concerns of the scientific community, characterized by problem orientation, thematic focus, and structured topics. She emphasized that constructing a media matrix for journals is a crucial path to enhancing decision-making influence, academic influence, and social influence. Moreover, during the integration with emerging media, it is essential to always prioritize content quality, emphasize dissemination, and uphold team foundation.
In the context of the vigorous development of global open knowledge services, think tanks, as high-end platforms for policy research and strategic consulting, increasingly rely on the dissemination and conversion of high-quality research outcomes to realize their influence and value. As important vehicles for academic exchange and knowledge sharing, journals play a critical role in showcasing, disseminating, and applying think tank achievements externally. This CCSP Think Tank activity contributes to facilitating a clearer understanding of the development philosophy for think tank journals, promoting deeper integration between journals and think tanks, and building a more open, interactive, and efficient system for journal development and think tank research result transformation. It aims to serve the high-quality development and construction of the CCSP Think Tank by facilitating a clearer understanding of the development philosophy for think tank journals, fostering deeper integration between journals and think tanks, and establishing a more open, interactive, and efficient framework for journal development and the conversion of think tank research results.
